BPH Treatment Options
- Medical therapy
Many medications are available to treat BPH and are usually tried prior to any procedure being proposed.
- Cooled ThermoTherapy™ (TUMT)
This minimally invasive procedure is performed in the office and takes 30 minutes. Microwave energy heats the prostate and causes it to shrink, while surrounding healthy tissue is cooled to protect it.

- GreenLight™ PVP laser prostatectomy
This is the most recent addition to BPH treatment, and is performed in the hospital on an outpatient basis. The obstructive tissue is vaporized and a catheter is left in overnight.

- TURP
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is still the gold standard in BPH treatment. It requires an overnight stay in the hospital, and most patients go home without a catheter.
