No-Needle, No-Scalpel Vasectomy Now Available in the Treasure Valley BOISE, IDAHO – Men of the Treasure Valley can now rest easy with thoughts of 'going under the knife.' A kinder, gentler vasectomy procedure is now available. Dr. Marc Iseri, of Iseri and Associates Urology, has introduced the no-needle, no scalpel vasectomy to the area and is finding many of his patients to be grateful for the new procedure that is faster, safer and more comfortable than any earlier technique. "I delayed this operation for over a year due to my fear for needles and pain. Had I known it was going to be this easy, I would have definitely done it sooner," remarked one former patient of Dr. Iseri’s. The no-scalpel vasectomy has been around for approximately 10 years, but it is the new no-needle ‘freezing’ technique, first introduced by Doctors Ronald Weiss and Barry Rich of Canada, that has truly revolutionized the procedure. This new method involves the use of a special device called a 'jet injector' that numbs the area by using air pressure to push the 'freezing' solution under the skin without the use of a needle. The sensation is gentle and can best be described as similar to a little pop, not unlike a small rubber band against the skin. Once the area has been numbed, the doctor is then able to perform the no-scalpel vasectomy procedure. The surgery itself lasts anywhere between 5-10 minutes, with another 5 minutes for sterile preparation, most patients are in and out within 15-20 minutes. Dr. Iseri, who operates out of both Ontario and Boise, is one of only two doctors on the west coast trained to perform this innovative new procedure. He has been impressed with the results: "My patients who have opted for this procedure have experienced less discomfort and have recovered more quickly and with less pain than with the conventional surgery, not to mention how happy they are with knowing they don’t need to deal with a needle. I believe going forward this less-invasive method will rapidly replace the traditional vasectomy." With approximately 500,000 vasectomies performed annually in the United States, the vasectomy is becoming the procedure of choice. The introduction of these newer, gentler techniques only makes it an easier decision for couples looking for means of a permanent solution. About Dr. Iseri Dr. Marc Iseri, a board certified urologist, has been practicing in Ontario since 1977 and recently opened up an office in Boise. He completed his medical school and urology training at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Iseri has been past Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery, and Secretary Treasurer of the medical staff at Holy Rosary Hospital. He also serves on the Board of Directors for a malpractice insurance company named Northwest Physicians Mutual in Salem, Oregon.
