No-Needle No-Scalpel Vasectomy The NO-NEEDLE, NO-SCALPEL VASECTOMY is performed in the doctor's office. No scalpel or needle is used. Using a special no needle "freezing" technique called jet injection, Dr. Iseri numbs the vasectomy area. This method of local anesthesia or freezing works with air pressure and doesn't require a needle. Dr. Iseri is the first doctor on the west coast to use this new no needle vasectomy technique. The sensation is similar to a little pop, not unlike a small rubber band against the skin. A tiny hole is made with a special instrument and stretched open just enough to lift out the tube (vas deferens) on each side. The vas is cut and both ends are cauterized then replaced into the vasectomy incision at different levels to prevent recanalization. The testicles continue to produce sperm for the rest of your life, however the sperm are broken down and are reabsorbed by your body.
The surgery itself usually takes 5-10 minutes; add another 5 minutes for sterile preparation, and most no needle no scalpel vasectomy procedures will have you in and out in 15 -20 minutes. The risks of bleeding and infection, the most common complications of the vasectomy, are much less than with conventional techniques. The anesthetic (freezing) technique causes less discomfort because a needle is not necessary and the numbing effect with the jet injection is more profound. After the vasectomy, special surgical skin adhesive is used to close the small incision so there are no foreign bodies left in the body. Recovery time from a no needle no scalpel vasectomy is usually faster and less painful because the procedure itself is less traumatic.
Dr. Marc Iseri, a board certified urologist, is one of only two doctors on the west coast to offer the ground-breaking no needle no scalpel vasectomy procedure. Read more: Breakthrough No-Needle, No-Scalpel Vasectomy Now Available in the Treasure Valley
